Blockhouse was born out of a desire in the Mad River Valley for a place to gather, create pottery and build community. All are welcome! It is owned and run by local residents Pamela Day & Andrew Russell with the help of our 2 young kids, Miles & Olen who inspire us to create space for community, art and learning.
We opened the doors of the studio to students in September of 2019 and the gallery in July of 2020.
The studio is a clean and organized space designed to promote productivity, safety and efficiency. We have 12 electric wheels, 10 in the class area and 2 for members to use while classes are in progress. There are 3 work tables for hand-building, a slab roller, extruders of various sizes, a large wedging table, a comfortable glazing area and several glazes to choose from made in house. The kiln room is equipped with 2 electric kilns that we fire to cone 6. We currently have 7 clay bodies to choose from. There is ample class shelving and 38 member shelves to store work.
We are centrally located in the town of Waitsfield, with many shops and places to eat just a few steps away from our own door.
